I am sublimating mugs using wraps and a cuisinart oven. To help with ventilation I have a box fan on the table next to the oven to help blow some of the fumes away. But unfortunately the fan vibrates a bit and as far as I can tell causes the oven to vibrate a bit too.

Do you think this would likely cause any problems?

It seems that as long as the wrap is on tight enough that vibration from a box fan would be insignificant.

I tried testing it, but had another variable involved by chance - it was a little too cool and I had a hard getting the oven to heat up and ended up leaving the mug in longer but mostly at a lower temperature.

The image wasn't as sharp as it should have been, but it could have been from baking so much longer than I should have or from the fan vibrating on the table.

I don't have anything else to put the fan on. If the vibrations are causing a problem maybe I could put something under the fan to reduce the vibrations. Any ideas for something cheap to absorb the vibration? Preferably something non-flammable, just to be on the safe side since it will be sitting right next to the oven.

I already make mugs with mug wraps and A home convection oven with no problems at all, i don't use any kind of ventilation.

Are you using heat-tape to stick the sublimation paper to the mug ? If you are not using heat-tape then is possible that the sublimation paper "moves" a litle with the heat and cause that "vibration" look.

The other thing could be the time that you use, if i leave the mug inside the oven more time that usually need the image result is "blurry"

My first mug wrap was the cactus mug wrap, it works very well but needs a little work to put in-out

Then i change the cactus mug wrap for this kind of wrap and it works great : Dye Sublimation Equipment - Mug Oven Clamp / Wrap - 80mm - Dye Sublimation Blanks, Consumables & Equipment - Mug Oven Wraps / Clamps for Dye Sublimation Mug Printing.

I get better results with a mug wrap that have a "hard" outside, as you can see this mug wraps have a metal outside that press firmly the sublimation paper against the mug.

What brand of mug wrap are you using ?

Sorry it took a while to reply - busy getting ready for a festival.

Yes, I use heat tape. And yes, that time I left it in too long. It was cold in the garage and the oven had a hard time getting up to temp. so I let it go longer. That may have been what caused it.

I don't know the names for the different kinds of wraps. I got mine from Conde. I like them - I use an electric screwdriver with a nut driver to tighten and loosen it. I don't have to handle the hot wrap too much this way.

But I'm starting to come around to the idea that ventilation isn't necessary either. I brought the oven into my kitchen a couple days ago and that worked fine. Probably do that today too.

As soon as I can afford it I think I'll go ahead and get a mug press too. Seems like too much guess work with an oven and wraps. Room temp., number of mugs baked at one time, etc. can affect long time to bake.
