I use this guy for my vector conversions. Very reasonable and does excellent work. For simple conversions I also use X3.

CorelDraw layers aren't really like PhotoShop layers in my opinion. Corel layers are more similar to a logical grouping of objects. I primarily use Layers when I design and print wedding invitations, the invitations arrive already embossed and everything, but I have to measure and design around all the different elements. So I draw my boundaries on a separate layer. Whe nit comes time to print, if you go to the Object Manager, you can alter one of three things to layers:

Visible, toggling this enables or disables the entire layer for viewing inside the actual workspace.

Printable, toggling this enables or disables the entire layer when it goes to print or is exported. On invitations, I leave the lay

Locked, toggling this prevents modifications to the layer

When I do my layout, all my boundaries are usually visible, non printable, and unlocked. I leave it unlocked because oftentimes I'll need to center items.

I've posted an example of how it works:
Image1: This is with both layers printable (what I normally see when I'm editing the invitation)
Image2: This is with the boundary layer toggled to be hidden when printing (what will actually be printed)
Image3: This is a photo of a finished sample I kept

i need a real detailed vectoring job on my image. is that guy expensive? because I need a job under $50.
Might want to try the Vector Doctor
Raster to Vector Conversion Service from The Vector Doctor

He gets a lot of praise on the sign forums I visit, and is fairly inexpensive I believe.
Illustrator CS..has built in vectorizing. I use that, I also use Adobe Steamline, which is WAY old but works good. I just started using Vector Magic which was develped by a team at Standford University and it supposed to be real good. You can download and use their program or send them a file for money and they will convert it as well.
+1 on the vector doctor. Eric did me right on a pretty complex scroll type design. Sent me the file two different ways, overlay method and cutout stye. Great, fast service, and it was around 30.00 bucks if I remember right. Price depends on how complex the file, and how fast you need it.
Hi,man, goole in the website and I am sure you will find lots of tutorals like cd tutorals|
on youtube. And practice more makes perfect. Best regards!
i would recommend the vector doctor also, great work at a very reasonable price, we do all our own stuff in corel without issues, however when it is something we don't have time for or flat out just don't feel like doing it that day, we send it off to eric - the vector doc
Jeff Harrison has a GREAT tutorial on bezier tracing at MacroMonster. I use this technique to create all my inlay artwork in CorelDRAW for my CNC business. Have a look:

My screenprinter uses coreldraw and uses vectormagic.com to do his. Just saw him use it last week, and it is really fast and pretty darn accurate. Think he subscribes for a year and costs around $5 a month.
Hey, Meat, I also use www.vectormagic.com it is a great site, and they do a pretty good job. You can do the first couple of files free too, I think. Anyway, it is worth subscribing too. The vector I had Eric(VectorDoctor) do was way too complex for vectormagic, and it just came out looking all jumbled, and not true at all. Nothing I could use for cutting. In a case like that, the file needs to be hand traced. There are tutorials on how to do this, and I have done a little bit, but it is definently an aquired skill to get them perfect. If it is a job you will be making money on, you might as well let a pro do it right, and save yourself loads of time and hassle. Maybe upcharge a little to compensate for the tracing cost.

vectorizing and having separate layers in your design are two different things.

vectorizing is taking an image file that's not already vector and converting it. usually you're taking a file like a jpeg or png and autotracing in your vector editing program (illustrator and coreldraw for example) to get it that way.

having separate layers in your coreldraw files is a learned process. it's just a matter of creating different layers for different things. when i setup a design for cutting a multi-color vinyl design i do it by each color to be cut. breaking down a design by different characteristics before actually producing it is something i'm still learning myself. -good luck!
James, this tutorial worked for you eh? How long did it take before you could trace a complex image? If so, this would be worth the 10 bucks. The Um sounds like he needs a real hard drawing traced, would he be able to do it after watching the video? Thanks, E.
Yes, it is definitely the best method I have seen so far. I also bought Jeff's number two tutorial, but I have not even viewed it yet, This one does what I need so far. It was well worth the price for me. Like all things hand tracing takes practice. I was productive in about 30 minutes, but since I don't do this that much I am still not very fast.
does anybody realize he asked about designing in layers?

That's about as pertinent as the fact that he posted this question in 2008 :)

The thread got bumped and then derailed.
