I am new to this and am looking to get pointed in the right direction.

I have created a 3D font for names and numbers on backs of T's in Adobe. I need to change names and numbers on the fly at sporting events.

If I change this into a vector format will that allow me to change quickly?

Best of all, you could make your own font and then use it as you would any other font.
Google for font creation software. It's not hard, I used it to scan my handwriting after I wrote all signs on paper, then you assign a "picture" to each letter/sign in the software, save it as a font. Great stuff.
