Morning all :) This is my first post so I'll introduce myself quickly before I ask my question!

I'm Sue and for about a year or so, I have been doing hand painted t-shirts mainly for kids. I've decided I want another way of getting my designs onto tee's though as hand painting is very time consuming. Heat transfers seemed like the best plan. Not sure how it's going to work yet as I will need to paint them and scan them, but I'll find out in the next week or so!

So, onto my question. Although I mainly do my own designs, every now and again I have come across a "public domain" image that I would like to use.

Can anyone tell me what the legal situation is for using these images over here in the UK? I did try searching but didn't see anything that seemed specific to the UK.

What I would normally choose to do is take the image and change it slightly anyway so it isn't an exact copy, just based on it but I don't know the legality of this.

Thanks very much.

Thanks Dave :)

The only image I have ever actually used to date appears to genuinely be public domain so I feel ok about having used it.

If I want to use something in future, I'll be sure to read the licence details carefully. It's all such a minefield!
