For all you experienced printers,

How would you print the following image on a black 100% cotton tee? Is my process ok? I'm still learning, and this will be my first two color job.

I burned the red strawberry pic on a 160 mesh, the white "STRAWBERRY" letters on 110 mesh, and underbase on 160 mesh.

Are the mesh sizes ok?

I am planning to print in the following order/sequence:

1. Underbase: Print (flood stroke, flood stroke), flash.

2. Strawberry IMAGE: Print (flood stroke), flash... Then print strawberry image, again. (Would this second print be ok?)

OR

2. Strawberry IMAGE: Print (flood stroke)

Then wet-on-wet

3. "STRAWBERRY" letters: Print (flood stroke)

Then cure.

Thanks, in advance!

Best would be print underbase, flash, than print the white letters, then the red (wet on wet).

You might want to try first no underbase. Print both the strawberry and the letters wet on wet, flash, then hit them again, then cure. This is one more stroke, but if you are new, it saves the trouble of registering (3) screens, and a lot of times gives good results.

Good luck,
Nick

depends on what ink your using. I know that union makes a maxopake ink and that wouldn't need to use a underbase and since your using 100 cotton then your ok. they say you can use max for it with no problems. that is what they say. its like what we say in the fire service. try before you pry. if you can do 1 or 2 shirts and that looks like what you want it to be then don't worry about flash. if it looks like garbage then flash. I think the screen mesh you picked is good.

Try before you pry? Hell, I work with guys that believe in break everything in sight then try. As far as the maxopake goes you will need to p/f/p to get good color. Maxopake is thick so don't be surprised if it seems like you are pushing paste through the screen.

man got to laugh stitches. and yes we do have some that its smash and then try also. didn't know about that. I've been screen printing for about 3 months so even I'm still learning about that. did some shirts that were 100% black and the yellow I was using wasn't that great. going to rebuild a screen since it look like the back side got towards the bottom where the emulsion was came undone abit so I was like well work with what you got till the next one. will try that and see. thanks for that tip

if i was doing the job...230 mesh for underbase to make ink as thin as possible on shirt plus u get less bleed out and crisper edges...155 for popwhite strawberry white letters...and 11o for red ink,,,red ink can be tricky sometimes and pinhole and stuff...print underbase, popwhite, red last...just do a few test prints first till u get it right with the # of squegee swipes...on a 230 underbase prob like 3 or 4 swipes to push it thru a high mesh...on a 155 pop white prob like 1 or 2 swipes...with the red prob just 1 will be good an a 110 maybe 2 swipes...oh yea i would flash between each layer just to play it safe with the red ink. good luck
