Go down to your local Menards or Home Depot and ask for Melamine scraps. It's what the manufacturers use when they sell you a press. It's the pressed wood with vinyl laminate that is used for shelving. They often times have large peices with scratches or dings. If not, just buy a brand new sheet of it. They're cheap.
Cut them to size, sand the edges and you're in business.
