I see a lot of shirts with numbers, can you not trademark numbers? I'm sure you can't go putting 23 on shirts because of Micheal Jordan.

Errr.... no.

I think that's the problem with people's perceptions of trademarks - they think that just because the word is trademarked they can't use it. Time Magazine have a trademark on Time, but it doesn't exactly affect our lives.

There's also a massive difference between copyright and trademark.
