Hi, this is my first post and I'm just getting used to screen printing. Many times I'm not careful and not all the ink gets passed through my screen and there will be some ink missing on the shirt. I'm wondering if I can touch up the design somehow after the fact.

Could I use a paintbrush and touch up the areas when the ink is still tacky so that when I iron the shirt, the design will cure and the texture will flatten so that you can't tell where the touch up is?

Also, how does one get fabric ink out of the screen? I can get the photo emulsion out, but I can never manage to get the faint image of my design out of my screen (I'm using black ink by the way). Thanks so much in advance!

As far as missing ink, check before you remove it from the platen, and if you need to you can go over it again to get the fill.

For the ghost image you need to get a dehazer for you type of ink, after you get the emulsion off spray the dehazer on it and let it set per the instructions and lightly scrub the screen, that should get rid of the ghost image.

Welcome to forum, most of the folks here are very friendly, helpful and supportive. :) By and by you will acquire the right techniques, and a lot of the more experienced printers are more than glad to help figure out these procedures with you as you go. As far as patch ups in the mean time, I've used a safety razor blade or Exacto knife blade to touch up small areas that got missed, it keeps the ink flat on the shirt. I've never heat pressed after (always thru the dryer), but that sounds like a good thing to try. Let me know how the heat press thing works out for you. :)

We use a heat press for our curing and it works great, we don't have the room or cash for a conveyor dryer. I have 2 heat presses that I use for heat transfer, so I saved some money by using them since we don't use textured inks yet.
