I'm doing some beenies and thinking , do I need a topping if so what type ?
They look ok with just a backing , but thought a topping may improve the look as the design is thin and the knit is a little thick

I like to put a light fill stitch behind the design. Make sure it is 3mm larger than design.

I have done beanies without topping. But it was more fill stitching than satins. If it is more satin than fill than I would of put topping. Regardless I think topping should help either way.

Topping should clean up the design if it is a thinner design. I use solvy

Light fill 1.0 spacing not that many stitches, same color as beanie.

Thanks all for the replys , if I use this solvy do you just lightly spray water ? I don't want to wash the beenie . I had someone do the digitze form me so how would I add the underlay ? I guess next time I tell them to add this to the design

If somebody else did the digitizing you should tell them that it is going on a beanie to adjust the underlay.

We do several hundred beanies a year and use solvy on em all. Just makes em look better, jmo, and yeah just tear it off like tear away and if you have any showing after-- just a lite spray of water will do it. Good luck
