TABLE or BOOTH?

2010 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  TastesLikeTofu

This is a snapshot from my 2nd Art & Craft show. I make and sell plush, activity books, comic books, zines, posters, accessories, stationery, etc and am looking to add apparel. I’m coming out with a new line in December where I’ll have a table or a booth(leaning towards booth) and am adding 2 tees.

It’ll be $200 for a table or $400 for a booth. Would I be able to sneak by with a table – maybe putting the 2 new shirts on display where the posters are in my picture? With new stuff coming out I fear I’ll run out of space on the already crowded table – but not sure I want to commit to filling a booth. Also I have only a compact car to haul all my stuff to the show(unless I rent a uhaul) so I’m trying to keep things compact.

Any criticism, ideas or input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Very nice job of displaying in a small area!
get two tables and rig up some sort of a canopy/storefront, you can do it cheaply, but if done it good taste could be highly effected. i.e. make a tree out of a big piece of styrofoam. you may have to rent a small uhaul to carry your stuff, but it'll pay off if your table is a hit.

or do you have the option of only renting a booth or a table via rules of the show/venue?

Oh! This is a great idea! I've used the foam insulation board that is used in house construction, to cut out things. The boards are thick, like 1" or so so they are very sturdy. You can paint them too. They are 8' tall too! Maybe you could strap them onto the top or your compact car when traveling. Use them at either end of your display, make them into "trees", paint them and use them to display more of your items.

You could hang a cute banner between the two "trees", across your tables to make it seem more like a booth.

yeah only one or the other - and when you have a table there are strict rules that nothing should be in front of or on the sides of the table...

great idea with the canopy/styrofoam...the wheels are turnin ^_^
Hey man you were like 3 tables down from me at Unique!
I did very well and I am guna step up to a booth for the Holiday show.
I was the guy selling the eco-frirendly tees on the end of that aisle.
My advice is to get a booth! People like to come into a booth and once you have 3 people, you have 5 then 7 and then 9 and so on. People want what others want. If 3 people are looking at a certain item then others are going to look at it and take it into consideration. That doesn't happen as well with just a table. I think a booth gets you more traffic in general but you have to figure out if it is worth it because that means $200 more in sales you have to make to break even. I would not recommend it to people who have lower selling items in the $1-$10 range to get a booth so if you sell cheaper items then go with the table setup.

Haha small world! Unique LA is the best show of it's kind that I've been to.

Thanks for all the input!

I've decided to go for another table at the holiday show because
1. 95% of my new and current stuff is under $10
2. i'm in another show at the end of november so gotta make that money stretch ^_^

Looking forward to meeting new artists and designers at the shows and good luck at the holiday show, Tim!
