Has anyone here actually designed a t-shirt to sell online and actually sold more than 1000 of them?

Oh you mean 1,000+ of a single design? My two hottest designs sold over 1,000 each but it took years. If I had actually promoted them I probably could've sold a lot more.

I've sold 22,000+ shirts with my own designs on them total, all time. Only thing I did was try to make designs people would want to buy. I didn't do any advertising or marketing. And I didn't work very much either. If I had worked hard and done big marketing, I probably would have sold far more.

I just checked, my hottest design has sold exactly 2054 t-shirts. Fortunately I copyright registered this design with the US government so I can keep making tons of money from it after I get serious about marketing it hard and putting it on a variety of products, like patches and ear rings and stuff.

Thank you for the response. I printed a shirt a few years back and sent some to a buddy of mine. The owner of Val Surf here in California supposed took notice, according to him, stopped him and asked where he had gotten it. Val Surf is one of the older surf shops in California, very successful. I let it fall through cracks being the great businessman that I am, lol.

Now I have another idea that I'm pretty excited about, but don't know how the hell to stop somebody else that has money and smarts from running with it, as I'm a poorboy with little business knowledge, and can't afford all the trademarking, etc.. It's kind of an open ended graphic that someone could easily think "I like it, but I'll change it to this... and go for it". It's a bit trivial.

I thought about building a site with WIX and just letting it rip with some advertising, but then I can't help but wonder how the hell I'd print and ship in a timely manner if it actually did take off.

I'm thinking out loud right now

If only I could get Kylie Jenner to sport it, she'd probably sell 10,000 in month or so. Anyone have her number?

you never know if it tickles their fancy, they may pass it on to kylie
okey you can sell more than 1000 but its hard to do that because The market is saturated and Lots of competition

Most of the designs on the market are not very good. There's always plenty of room for new designs to sell if they're good & catchy and if they have a lot of traffic driven to them.

By the way, my preferred method of discouraging copycats is to make good designs that are hard to draw. That's why my hottest design kept selling well for such a long time - because other people couldn't draw their own version. I only saw one person imitating this design but their version turned out ugly and seems like no one is buying it. I'm going to report this one for copyright infringement because they made an exact copy of part of my design. I think Amazon will terminate their account.

One time I had a super hot selling design that was selling like crazy, but it was a simpler design. So lots of other people made their own sloppy and inferior version and killed most of my sales for that design.

I had a saint patricks day text slogan that was a great seller, but since this was a slogan, TONS of other people copied it after they found out I was selling a lot of them. Then that totally killed my sales of that design. I had almost zero sales of this text slogan afterwards, whereas it used to be a top seller.

The design itself is nothing without a way to effectively connect with the people who would want it. If it isn't related to some keyword that people are already searching for, the odds of anyone seeing it are just about zero. Of course, if you've got an unlimited ad budget, you could probably sell a few bacon shirts to Jews and Muslims, but it would be more cost effective to have something they were looking for.

Correction: I forgot to add the totals for both of the sites I sold my hottest design on. So the real sales total is 2,461 for that one design. That's about 11% of all the shirts I've ever sold. I definitely need to market this design hard and put it on multiple products. It's mine and I hold the official copyright, so I can exploit it as much as I want and shut down anyone who tries to steal it. I should make a web store or Amazon store dedicated just to this one design. Tonight I just thought of another design I think will be a pretty good seller. Sometimes when I get a very good idea for a good selling design, it's like I can hear a little "bing" sound going off in my brain, like when Spiderman's "spidey sense" get's triggered.

I have many designs that I have sold over 1000 times, I probably have designs that I have sold 10,000 times. I would never disclose what they are or where they were sold though.
Facebook! We have customers that come up with stupid stuff all the time, goes somewhat viral on FB and we end up printing 1000+.

I am puzzled. The links you have do not go to t-shirts, but to a ring and a clutch???

I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't provide any links.
Market is over saturated with quality prints on good quality shirts at the rock bottom prices, I will not believe anybody saying he sold 1000 shirts overnight unless its an chain store order. T-shirt business cannot be run alone unless you make it part of other business, like garment store, summer camp or group activities.
Good luck.
