Sublislate issues

Hey there,
We have had nothing but problems with sublislate products over 6". No matter what method we try, we are getting halo effects, paleness and all kinds of other terrible results. Any help would be great.
Typical sub:
400 degrees
8-11 minutes depending on size
light/ medium pressure
Using the silicone pad on top of the transfer

First reaction is if under 6 inches works fine but larger is an issue, what press are you using and how even is the temp and pressure? Have you tried moving the items around on the press to see if you get a different result?

Are you using a clam shell press?
You might not be getting good contact with the platen.

Also 415 degrees is not unheard of when using the green pad, you could try that. I think about 11-12 minutes is what we use for large slate, using a green pad.

THIS IS FOR THE 5"X7" RECTANGLE
******
PRE HEAT slate
===========
I do them in reverse...
* nomex pad down first
* Transfer face up then slate face down onto transfer. This also lets you see exactly where you place.
* protection paper and then green heat conductive pad on top.
============
400*
540 secs HEAVY PRESSURE

I've tried different positions on the press with no luck. The two in the picture were two different positions on the press.

What brand slate is that? We purchase through Conde and they dont reccomend using the nomex pad but instead the green pad or silicone pad with light/medium pressure for 480 seconds.
SAME SLATE %' x 7" size
============
preheat the slate slightly on the NOMEX pad which will also give you the indentation of where to place the transfer and slate.

NOMEX PAD: to equalize the pressure and to protect the bottom press pad from indentation.
PROTECTIVE PAPER: next to keep nomex pad clean
TRANSFER: face up
SLATE: face down
PROTECTIVE PAPER: to keep green pad clean and help remove the HOT green pad
GREEN HEAT PAD: on top

HEAVY PRESSURE
WORKS FOR ME EVERY TIME
YMMV

HAHA, no, that's just me. here you go.
also, We're using a Knight swing press 16x20. we have a 32x42 maxi press coming this week so if it is a press issue, that will hopefully resolve it.

David! This is the problem I have been having with my slates. I never could get the problem solved on my own and with suggestions from peeps at Conde (see emails from and to Carrie Piercy from September). Did this person's problem ever get resolved? If so, how? That might help me to figure out what adjustments I need to make. Thanks!!!
