I would post this over in the dye sublimation forum. From reading about this over time there surely seems to be issues.
Why bother? Sublimation works best on poly. If you have cotton then do DTG or Screen Printing.

Why bother? Clearly there is a market as companies, most recently Reveal, have continued to perfect the process. Sorry not everyone has $20K to just go out and buy a DTG machine.

Totally agree, and add to that all the problems and expense in just keeping a DTG machine running day to day.

There's no denying it, the Reveal process is going to be a real game changer and will turn DTG on its head.

I agree ...

... if they can deliver a non-fiddly, easily reproducible process.

I screen print my own line, mostly one or two color designs. But I also have full color photographic type designs for black/dark shirts that I POD. With something like this, I could bring that work in house, and it would just be gravy that I could use the same printer/ink to sublimate mugs and such, as I also currently POD that.

If they get this right (low hand, durable, good color fidelity, unfinicky, only costs an arm), it will make a lot of people very happy. I hope they pull it off. Most likely it will fall short of the unicorn we seek, but add the option of another set of tradeoffs to choose from, a set that may be a better fit for some of us than those currently available.

If "they" are listening: Take your time; get it right. Thanks :)
so this https://vividchemical.com/ is still being fine tuned? after reading this post last night i quickly looked into it and will be buying if its legit!!

The WC, for printing full color onto black/dark garments, has not been released for sale. This one is, I believe, the main point of interest/excitement.

Their released products: S is for printing full color onto white/light garments; W is for printing WHITE images only, onto black/dark garments.

There is a thread on here where some early adopters were not pleased with the process/results ... maybe from a year ago, or so? They slowed their release schedule, so I assume that means tweaking.

i will be waiting! looks like a great alternative to DTG!
We are selling the Reveal products and getting very positive feedback. Especially when using the Epson P600 printer. We are anxiously awaiting the release of the film for printing on darks.

From Vivid's FaceBook page two weeks ago:

Vivid Chemical - We are hoping to launch W in the next 2 weeks. We do not have an expected launch date for WC at present. It is in beta testing now.
You can sublimation on cotton with a printer that conde system sale
I have a patent to print sublimation color transfers onto dark shirts and substrates since 2014.

... And your point is?

What about screen printing? That isn't $20K.

Nothing beats screen printing if the volume/screen ratio is right. (Few nuts would use screen printing to POD ... as I do .)

The least well served niche is low-volume/one-ofs on dark garments.

HTV works for low-weed low-color art. More complex or colorful art requires DTG (expensive equipment that requires constant use), two-step laser transfers (fiddly process, lesser durability), or inkjet for darks (heavy hand, poor durability).

WC might be the long sought unicorn for low volume complex art on darks. Or it might prove to have its own bugaboos that relegate it to being just another addition to the list of imperfect options, which is what I expect, but I still hope for the best.

Watch the Conde videos on calibrating a heat press for version 2 of the S paper. It is clearly much more finicky than other inkjet papers, and would no doubt be a disaster with my crappy press. Success requires operating within a narrow band of temperature and pressure settings, and feeding it suitable art. No one should buy into this system without first watching the videos provided by Conde about setting up your press to work with it.

These videos take a little gloss off the unicorn and indicate that its farts may not always smell like mint ;)
Still, a slightly odorus horned horse may be the best of the flawed options for some of us aiming at the right niche.

The Reveal systems are close to perfection now and my view is that they will soon blow everything out of the water with regard to reasonably priced, vivid prints on cotton garments.
