An Epson 4880 is what you are thinking ofThere are printers out there that have 2 separate print heads for 2 kinds of ink. I'm thinking it's an epson printer, but can't remember off hand. It was advertised with chromablast ink a while back.
There is software that allows that ...You can't mix inks between sublimation and pigment. The printer would have to have separate lines and heads. To my knowledge, there is no such thing as a dual purpose printer.

You need to check RIP software suppliers for that capability. Of course you would need at least 8 print heads in the printer to be capable for 4 color printing using both technologies. Is it possible to have any machine with dual heads? One sublimation and one pigment

That is true, and the firmware on either the 4800 or the 4880 will force head cleaning at pre-determined intervals, whether the heads need cleaned or not. From past experiences with dual purpose printers (we used the Epson 4800). You will deal with more ink cost than you normally would with just 2 separate printers. Every time you run a clean you will be draining both inks. Even if you are running cotton for a week you are draining your sublimation ink through cleans and maintenance.
The carriage width is 17 inches. It can use roll paper so the paper length is not fixed. I'm not sure about his needs on paper size except what was posted would come out to about 63 inches (160 cm), if that is the width then can't use the 4880 for sure. The 9600 was only 44 inches width I think. The epson 4880, but I don't know how big it is.
It could be, just that I am not familiar with it. I only know Epson printers for the most part. If that printer is capable without 3rd party support then any authorized dealer would be the best to ask or if any users here have hands on with that model. What about mutoh 160, says that can print with 2 different types of ink. Is it true?
