I'm setting up a Geo Knight heat press with top and bottom heat to speed up sublimation on tiles, anyone using top and bottom heat platens for sublimation on tiles or ?

Looking for suggestions on temp and times for heating from both sides.

Thanks!

Did someone suggest that method?
How big is your press?
I would suggest buying two presses.

I got a really good deal on a 20x25 with top and bottom heat and I was thinking since it takes a while to heat up the tiles this would speed up the process.

Use the settings that come with the tiles.
I've not seen any tiles that come with suggested time and temp for top and bottom heat.

Ask your supplier.
Super helpful thanks.

I have a fair amount of experience with top/bottom heat and really like the flexibility. For tiles I don’t think hearing from both sides is a good idea as the coated side would cook long before the back side heat made it through the tile. Great question to consider!

Thanks David, what would top and bottom heat be good for?

2 sided products like...Dog tags, aluminum, ornaments, poker chips, lanyards, etc.
When you press something that is 2 sided the 1st side will usually not look as good after the 2nd press...so if you have bottom heat you can do both sides at the same time making both sides look great.

The concept makes it look logical for the application that you want, but if you like a nice press along the edges you need to use a layer of Nomex so the transfer contours nicely around the edges of the tile, now if you use a Nomex layer then it would insulate the heat from the bottom heat element making it worthless, so I think David's suggestion is best.

Oh, I thought the OP was asking about 2-sided tile.

We do 2 sided aluminum products with just a standard heat press. Aluminum conducts heat so well you can sublimate both sides at the same time.

I do most products you mention except for poker chips and lanyards, in one press time on both sides with no problems at all, oh, and with a top heat platen only heat press.

Cool...no one said you couldn't do them. I gave examples of things that could benefit from top and bottom heat.

So you are pressing can koozies and the like and only needing to press it 1 time to get both sides? Grab some poker chips and try those and you will see for yourself.
Another example of what top and bottom heat can do.
I am not trying to convince anyone to get top and bottom heat...most people dont need it or can get by without it.

We do thin 2 sided aluminum the same way as you.

Another great use of top and bottom heat is socks. You can press both sides at the same time and dont tend to have a "line" in your finished product.
That's awesome! I'm going to try socks! Thanks!
