Yes I know there are many other threads and I can click on tags on here than can help find my answer but I would like to receive help specifically to me. I have done a lot of research on the site but am still unsure about what is needed to start my ecommerce site. My plan is to only order custom shirts I designed, and ship these shirts to people who purchase them on my website. I am shipping these shirts out of Richmond, VA. I will not have a store or anything. I wanted to know what I legally need to start my ecommerce site. Do I actually have to register an LLC or Sole Proprietorship and need a resale license? I know I will need a tax id for sales tax. Any help will be appreciated.

You need to have your tax docs, in order to get those, you need to be registered with the state and national government. To get registered you need to get your business license from the city of Richmond. In order to get that you need to be registered with the clerks office and have zoning permit (but in your case, maybe not the zoning part). In order to get that you need to have your LLC or sole-proprietorship set up. In order to get that set up you need your EIN. Virginia's paperwork is a jungle to get through. I just went through it all.
