Hi guys, my name is Dave and I'm new to the forum!

I have been doing some research, but keen to know where to start.

Are there any reasonable packages that can be purchased out there for people beginning in t shirt printing?

For example, a package that would include printer / heat press etc.

Can anyone recommend any online learning videos or tutorials?

Keen to learn but from scratch.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

you are in the right place

hard to recommend packages, simply because there are a multitude of variables involved

your best bet is to go to the individual sub-forums here and decide on a process and research it then ask specific questions

it is akin to going to a buffet with 1000 items and saying i'm hungry what should i put on my plate?

I recommend buying good quality equipment from the start.
It holds its value, will cut down on issues you may encounter when being new, last longer, tend to be built to a higher standard.

If you want to save some money in the beginning, look for high quality used equipment.

For training... either work for someone and learn, search on you tube for videos on what you want to know (you can learn pretty much anything on there now a days), or figure it out yourself by trail and error.

I would go used at first then figure out what you really want to invest in. When I started all I had was a table top press and a flash dryer. Ok and something to burn screens with. I cleaned all screens in my yard.

I bought larger and better things used.I went to trade shows to look at equipment. I learned a lot just from shopping around. I found out what the limits of mine are and what I could live with and what I could not live with out. Then invested in what I had to have over time.

Just this week got a new dryer in. Only the second NEW piece I have bought. But took years to figure out it was time to invest in something better.

So yes tough question to answer. You may have to start out with what will get you by and learn what you need.

As far as training, YouTube is a good place to start. A lot of local suppliers offer classes, like GSG.
And of course, you will learn a lot here.

Packages will get you a lot of stuff you don't need. Basically a heat press and a 24 inch cutter will set you back around $3K to $4K. You can make that up in a matter of a few days or weeks. With that you can do shirts, banners, signs and anything else that can be heat set as well as plastisol printing. If you want to skimp then get a 15x15 press instead of a 16x20 but plan on upgrading ASAP. For the cutter, a Graphtec, Roland, Summa, etc. are all good. If you want to go cheap then a US cutter will be about $500 and will get you in the game, save your pennies and buy the next one up ASAP.

We started with a $400 US Cutter, made much more than that on our first job, 5 years later we sold it for $200 but made several hundred thousand with it. We did start with a DK20S though.
