Are you going to be online only or B&M? Where are you located. All that makes a difference.

Did you write a business plan?

Where are you located? How much is your budget? How will you sell your products?
Here are some things to consider.
1. You will need a heat press. Best is 16x20 inches. $$
2. You can buy rolls or sheets of T-shirt vinyl and you will need a plotter $$ to cut it or you can order cut designs from a merchant. All you will need to do is heat press to the shirt.
3. You can print the graphic. You will need a printer with suitable inks. You print onto special paper and then press it onto the t-shirt. $$
4. You will need a different heat press for caps or bottles and mugs $$
In USA:-
You will need a license to do business and tax number.
You will need a merchant to supply you with T-shirts and other substrates.
You will require a resellers permit for tax free purchases.

@emet214 he already mentioned many legal things in their posts.

I like to point out most thankful t-shirt forum thread for detailed printing methods. There is huge discussion there.

Exactly, It's very difficult to cover every points here in details for new business start-up.

Here, I mentioned steps, you should keep in your mind and research on it before starting online business.
1. Create A Business Plan
2. Decide on the ecommerce solution for your web store
3. Select the printing method you will use
4. Select the right t-shirt supplier
5. Set up the printing infrastructure
6. Set up logistics infrastructure
7. Launch your store
8. Market your store

What equipment should we use and how much will it cost?
You need multiple machines to print different products. so I suggest contact local printing vendors and do legal contract with them.

If you think, want to purchase the machine, check out some popular classified sites. Sometimes it helps to find better things at cheap pricing.

Kindly advice in case of any concern.

Thanks

I would start with one type of printing (probably T's) first and get that running smoothly before investing in another printing process. You might decide that printing T's is enough or you might decide to branch out into another area based on what you've learned and your current customer base.

I suggest spending a lot of time reading in the different forums including the one about heat presses and transfers, vinyl and direct-to-garment printing.

How are your artwork skills? You might also want to contact your local Small Business Administration to see what type of registration is required in your location. How will you market your product? Local marketing can be quite different than online marketing. Finances? Working from home will give you a lower overhead but how will you market your product? All of these issues and many more should be address in a business plan - your roadmap for building your business!
