Well first, tell us which equipment you have bought or plan to buy. There are smaller table top press' out there which will save you lots of space. They also have conveyor dryers that are less then 4ft in length, one in particular to look at might be the Little Buddy dryer (it runs on 110V I believe.).

It will also help if you specify the size of your spare room and if this will be a business venture or a hobby.

I also have serious space issues. I researched this topic for some time. I found the best set up for the space I had (10x12 shed) was the Brown Pony Printer. It has a 4-6 color printer mounted on top of a small dryer. I have run my business for over five years with this machine. It's not the best machine you'll find but it's far from the worst. There are also a huge selection of attachments available from Brown that you usually would not find on other small machines. Keep in mind I have had it for five years there very well could be something better out there by now. Good luck.

"One spare room" inside the house? I really wouldn't want to do manufacturing inside my home. If you have a garage or a shed or even just a covered porch, that would work. But inside? Not really recommended.

We started in the spring of 07 in a small section of our 2-car garage. My husband said if we could make $1000 a month that he would park outside of the garage and we could have both sides. We are now in both sides (except for a small place in the back where 2 Harleys sit) and are running out every open space.

You definitely have to start somewhere. I absolutely would find space for a conveyor dryer. The first about 100 tees we did was with a flash dryer and we knew immediately that wasn't going to work for us. It seems as we get just an inch more space that we fill it with something else we didn't know we had to have or else we just stretch everything out a bit more.

Good luck to you, and I sincerely hope your spare room is the start of something big.

I agree, I cure my water based ink with my press, covered by teflon sheet, but before that i hit it with a hairdryer inside and outside, to dry to the touch, or between colors.
and i agree, the press melds the ink. nicley.

You will be amazed at what you can do in a small space. First off, shelves...use your vertical space as much as possible. After Hurricane Katrina, I ran my business out of an 8X12 room in a 14x52 mobile home for 10 months while our home was being repaired. Now we have a 20x20 shop attached to our house and I have embroidery, 2 DTG printers, and screen printing in the same area. With a little organization, it can be done.
