I want to make a few batches of matching/coordinating shirts for my family, for an upcoming trip.

I have a bunch of vinyl from my interior design business. It is Oracal 631. It would be great to be able to use that. I already have designs created and ready to cut. Reversed the text...ready to go.

What I really need to know is whether or not I can just use my iron to apply. And if so, if anyone would give me any advice for the time to press, etc....

This would be greatly appreciated. We are home-schoolers, and everyone is really hoping mom can pull through with something cool and amazing (again! LOL!) I've got the hat....I just need some help with the rabbit portion.;)

TIA!

ummmmm, sorry, but noooooooo! what you have is sign vinyl - it's pressure sensitive (adhesive on the back) and will absolutely not, under any circumstances work on any garment with our without benefit of an iron - or any other heat source for that matter :p the only difference is that you'll completely wreck the garment AND the iron if you try to press that stuff! what you need is heat applied vinyl - thermoflex, multicut, etc. and even then application with a household iron is iffy at best. you simply can't get adequate heat and pressure to get a really good bond. i'd say your best bet would be to find a local shop that has the proper material and equipment to cut and press a few shirts for you. sorry to burst your bubble, but i'd hate to see you wreck your shirts AND your iron.

If the shirts only have to last one day, say, for pictures or something, that vinyl WILL stick to the shirts. The shirts may be throw-aways after because of the adhesive residue and won't hold up in the wash at all.
I agree with jberte though - find a local shop and it should be fairly cheap. Cheaper still if you can give them a good vector file and provide the blank shirts.

Thanks bunches for the info. Glad I checked first, before going headlong into the project, lol! (For a change!) And thanks for being so helpful and kind - I almost didn't post such a lame question, but I really wanted to rule out the possibility.

I probably don't have time to order a small quantity of t-shirt vinyl before my trip, get it in, and make the shirts.....however, it's still an idea I'd like to create at some point.

I need to make 9 shirts (4 will be adult sized, and 5 will be child) - do either of you know where I can get vinyl in a small quantity, for a good price? Any recs? I'm thinking a yard.(?)

Thanks again!

even if you order the correct material in time for your project there's still the issue of not having the right equipment to apply it convincingly :( you're really gonna be ahead of the game finding a local shop to cut and press your graphics for you :)
