I just got wind that DAS Smart Designer X4.5 is NOT compatible with Corel Draw X6. I was told that it would be 6-12 months until a new version would be released.

I think this is a bit unreasonable. I know the guys at DAS want to take advantage of the new features of X6 and so do we.

I would have hoped that they would have made the tool a bit more flexible than that.

making a version of SD 4.5 a couple years ago that would be compatible with a version of Corel not yet published is not a realistic goal...how in the world would DAS know what Corel is going to do....Best solution..continue to use SD and X5 to do those things you want that require SD and then open in X6 to take advantage of any of the new things you want..
