So I was in getting some fabric and talked to the embroidery guy... his opinion was to buy 4 single head units and link them together vs buying a 4 head unit.. main reason was that you can do 4 separate jobs, and if the main head goes out on a multi unit the rest are useless...

What are your opinions? It would be nice to scale up buying a new unit when money allows vs going all out on a 4 head unit... 4 was the max you could link btw

Thanks,
Jeron

It is not correct that if one head goes out on a multihead that the rest of the heads are useless. The head that is in need of repair can simply be turned off and the rest run without it. Single heads are very useful machines if you are running small jobs of a dozen or less. I have one single head machine in my shop that runs non- stop, but so does my 12 head. All depends on the orders your particular embroidery business receives. I am in full agreement that being able to run 4 different jobs at a time is a winning formula. As your business grows you find yourself adding the machines to cater to each new segment of business you develop. Good luck with your decision.

I would never buy a bunch of single heads in place of a multi head. The price difference is enormous. On a multi head if one goes down the others can still be run.

Pretty much for the price of 6 full size (not compact) single heads you can get 2 four head machines. The compact machines get you into the game but IMO are an entry level machine. We started with a compact and if I knew then what I know know I would have gone with the full size.

all 6 of my machines are swf machines I bought all of them used and never paid over 5k all are 2006 and newer my last one is a 2010 the people wanted out of the lease I looked at it and test ran it I gave them 3500. Cost about 500 for travel hauling it home renting a trailer. If your going to get in to embroidery check out the used market but not ebay I know of people that bought from there and had junk they had to get a tech to work on it. If you don't know any thing about the machine ask around and find someone to help you check the machine. I will never buy a new machine for 16k when I can buy 3 or 4 single head machines for that price they are out there you just have to look.
