Simple Seps, not so simple

ok, so I got my WF1100, and my super B film, so I decide to try out the Simple Seps software before I buy it, and I figure if I don't like it than I will use the $140 towards AccuRIP or some other.

So I download the free trial, it says I get ten uses, I only really need one, maybe two.... First off it would not work right on my main PC, so after trying everything I could think of, including emailing AdvancedTshirts.com and it's a no go.

So I uninstall CD X5 and the free trial of SS( just to stay legal) and install them onto my laptop. Ok, now SS will open:), after watching the tutorial I give it a shot. Wow worked great, now I have separations.

Time to print.... I load up my WP film and adjust my settings, hit print.... and no image... the SS registration marks print but no image... WTF???? After messing with every setting possible I found it will print correctly only when set to plain paper and economy setting which of course is no where near opaque enough.

HELP PLEASE anyone experience this? Hopefully Advanced will get back to me tomorrow.

correct me if i'm wrong, but simple seps isn't meant to create dark films. It is merely an amazing plugin for corel that lets you do color separation, underbases, and halftones, etc. You would still want a rip software to print your films so you can adjust your ink density.

I might be wrong here, but from watching 3-4 tutorials on simple seps I don't see anything that would indicate to me that you are going to get dark output films right out of corel.

Some how I got nice dark films, with photo settings on 8.5" x 11"
Film, but 13" x 19" won't work.

Simple seps is designed to print films without a rip, I've been using it for a year now and love it, if you are having printing issues it's you or your printer settings, simple seps is just a plug in and has no control over your output size. I can't believe Tom hasn't replied to your questions though, he is usually super fast and helpful, maybe he's away from work.
Did you email or call?
I emailed the company through the website, I will call today if I don't hear back. I am feeling like this is a printer thing also, it is just too strange.

if you get a answer please post it here. I had this happen once, but somehow I was able to get it to print right, but not sure what I did to "fix" it....LOL
I too experienced some issues in the beginning (different from yours), but Tom was very helpful and able to get me up and running. You might try and contact him through this forum. He will definitely get back to you.
I had the same thing happen to me. What i do is after the image is separated or halftoned go back and select the image. And turn into a bitmap, black and white and then right click the clear for the fill and and black for the outline. So ur printer will print halftones because you dont actually have a rip. Hope this helps

Brad after you separate simple seps makes the films in 100k. Click on find and replace and replace an object. Replace a color use the dropper to pick the 100k. Then change the color to 100 C 100 M 100Y 100K. You have to do this for the fills and outlines or you can do this with each object in the object manager. If you do halftones it makes a bitmap it is a little more difficult and you have to do this in photo paint. make sure your canvas is 13x19 or smaller. Then print choose 13x19 paper size Choose photo settings or best photo and premium photo glossy. I have had where CDx5 would not let me print a 13x19 when the canvas was bigger than 13x19. I believe that Corel Draw is the problem with the 13x19 printing issue not simple seps. Also if X5 make sure you have all the service packs installed.

Thanks for the info, that makes sense, my first attempt was on an older PC, and SS would not even open. The second attempt was on a newer laptop and SS opened n made the separations but would only print when the size was reduced, or the quality was lowered. I was sure it was a way to make it work, but again how long should the process take. There are lots of demos on how to use SS, but none walk through the actual printing of film.
The bottom line is after 6-8 hours and $10 worth of film, I was nowhere near a working film. Switching to AccuRIP's free trial I had perfect films in 1 hour.
My intentions are not to downplay SS, I love the tinted pallet control, but I don't want to have to mess around, I just want to print.

Also FYI, even without dye ink, and all black system, AccuRIP made super opaque films.

Have you tried filmmaker DTP RIP. this what I use for halftones only I still use method above for spot colors. Filmmaker has variable dot so it can use the variable dot tech of the epson printers something accurip can't do. Until your printing halftones with gradients it's not as noticeable but then it stands out. Per file I usally take 10 min or less to do the entire process. My laptop mic won't work with the recording program I have I am getting an external mic today and making videos on doing this. I made videos last weekend but there is no audio. Douh!!!!

Also did you get the 1100. They have a lite version for $195. Full working but for the 1100 only and can only be installed on 1 pc. It does take a little time to set up but worth the extra 30-60 min

Yes I did get the WF1100, $109 from Epson(remanufactured). I would advise this for anyone looking for a low budget wide format printer. I will checkout Filmmaker before I make a final purchase, but AccuRIP seams to be the incumbent.

I can tell you that I printed 4 designs on accurip, filmmaker, and multi rip. when printing spot colors all 3 where the same but when doing simulated process or images with gradients or lots of different shading filmmaker was the winner hands down. Check it out you may end up going accurip as it does a good job but I have a lot of completion in my area and they all use accurip or no rip at all. I just recently started doing the high end printing within the last year and I have won some big accounts due to the extra quality in the print. I was given a image that was screen printed last year by a shop. I printed the exact image and I was given the job and was $1.25 per shirt higher.
