I was told to bring top platen down directly on to pad with no shirt on pad when top platen is hot for 15 seconds 3 times to warm the bottom pad or else the first 3 transfers wont come out properly.
I just want this confirmed or told if I got bad advice, with someone experienced.

I always pre-heat the lower platen......And keep it hot if there is too much time between presses....

Wouldn't that be accomplished by pre pressing you shirts at the pressing temp. ?

I always press the bottom pad for 20second before doing anything. Then with the shirt prepress and the regular presses, it should stay plenty toasty.

The pad really sucks up the heat....I would think you would have to do quite a pre-press to get enough heat in the pad....

I always did a quick prepress first thing upon turning the press and it getting up to temperature without a garment ... and maybe again if it sat opened unused for a long period (I did dogs shows and made shirts on demand randomly throughout the day). Never had a problem with 'shirts not coming out' regardless.

Its not going to hurt you by warming up the pad but generally all that maters is top platen, though I would need more specific details on you press, inks ect.

IMO a little extra heat from below allows the adhesive, plastisol, etc. to melt a little more and get a little deeper into the cloth....
