Hi Harold

Don't know if my thoughts are of any use to you as I am in Australia but what I did when I set up my (non t-shirt) online business I found it was just too complex to work out the costs posting various items to different destinations so I added a flat charge to the selling price of each item. I then plastered all over my site "FREE SHIPPING AUSTRALIA WIDE !!!!!". I figure it is a case of swings and round abouts and on some items I will end up subsidising the postage by a dollar or so and on other orders I make a dollar or so. When ever I send out any promo emails I also hammer home the free shipping message as I know that the cost of postage is often a make or break decision for me when I am deciding whether to order something on line I not.

If my online t-shirt shop is ever up and running (sighhhh these things always take time) I will most likely go the "free shipping" route as well.

I linked my site directly with UPS, so it takes the dimensions, weight, and shipping and calculates it out correctly. It was already an option on my set-up, so once I put the dimensions in it was very easy. The only issue I had with it is you have to pick resedintial or commercial with no way of changing it per order. So I pick what my customer demographic is and occasionally have to eat $3.00 for a resedintial fee.
