Hey everyone!!

I have a small screen printing business I run out of my house. I want to start offering embroidery but I've noticed that those machines are crazy expensive!!!!

So I would like to know your opinion on sending it out to a different company until I grow enough to do it myself.

Those of you that do this would I be able to provide the material? And will they typically work with me on the price so I can make profit also considering I'm bringing them the work. Or am I more or less expected to not make profit and break even just to make my customer happy?

Just trying to understand how this typically works just so I know.

I'm in Draper, Utah by the way if there are any locals that read this that would be willing to help me out with embroidery orders.

Thanks
Jeron

Where are you located?....

As someone who has been outstourcing for decades, a couple thing stick out for me.....

Ist of all, use "contract only" embroiderers......Some that also sell retail will go after your clients and they also will put your work aside for their own retail work.....

2nd, I always use my embroiderer's own digitizer or their referral....Not all digitizing is the same so I try to use ones that are familiar to the embroiderer I am using.....If the digitizer and embroiderer work together often, they get to know each other....It may cost a little more but I have found the results are better and you save time by not having to go back and forth....

I live in Utah, basically Salt Lake City, Utah.

The only embroidery i know of would be other places that screen print also, so i'm assuming they aren't contract embroiders... How would i find one that is contract only????

Also would i have to deal with the digitize??? I was under the impression that i would send the art to whoever was doing the embroidery and they would set it up how they needed it...

Mike i'll send you a message, thanks!!!

Contact embroidery can be handled in many ways. Pick a few potential embroiderers and "interview" them with a your questions then pick the one you feel you are most likely to be able to work with.

I would Google local embroiderers to locate potential shops. You might not want to use a close competitor unless you know they and their employees can be trusted. I wouldn't discount a shop because they offer screen printing. Most contract embroiderers will let you supply the garments. They will tell you what their pricing is and you should add to that so you make a profit.

When looking for an embroiderer in addition to pricing you'll want to know about their turnaround time, what type of job information you need to supply, how mistakes are handled, what type of speciality work is done (do they embroider puff, applique, heavy jackets), how proofs are handled, if they check-in garments, do they steam and fold and what type of payment they accept. Most of all look for someone whose quality level is satisfactory to you and has a personality you can work with so you both have a profitable working relationship.
