Hey guys, I'm getting in a large order of shirts soon and I'm gonna be hustling to get them in stores. Mostly through cold calling metaphysical stores, sending them an email with the line sheets, following up with them, and seeing if they me to send a sample.

Now, I'm curious what the industry standard is here. I would imagine the store would expect to receive the sample for free. Then would I charge them for that sample shirt when/if they make a larger purchase? Or just count that as a marketing cost and not charge them for the sample shirt?

I currently have three designs, two colors each. I was planning on sending just one sample tee, whichever they want. Do you guys think one tee is fine, or that they'll want to see all the shirts? Though I don't really wanna give away three shirts to someone who may or may not be interested in them.

Thanks for your time.

Don't charge potential clients for the samples. Just consider it a cost of doing business.

You can probably just send one sample to show the quality of your shirts and the print. But it may come across as small time that you are only willing to send one instead of a sample of each product you offer. Stores want to be confident that you can deliver the goods if they place an order. If they place a big order, can you cover the production cost? What if they want net 90 terms? What if they require that you buy back any unsold inventory after 60 days?

I'm in the same boat right now. I'm trying to be realistic. Being the little dog in a big dog world can be tough. I want to freely give samples, but I don't want to break the bank sending everyone a sample and then not make sales. I'm also looking into doing an affiliate program so that places could sell my product without carrying it.

Know a man that lost a $50,000.00 account because he would not give free samples.
