I'm new here and wanted to approach some local models to put on shirts and sell. What would the rate for something like that be? Would that be a model rate only? Or more because I'm placing her likeness on a shirt?

I keep thinking a rate of $1,000 might be alot for her modeling rate and using it on a shirt to sell.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Scribblah,

Don't know where "local" is for you and that is a factor to consider. For example, if you were in Los Angeles or Miami the rate would be higher than somewhere less competitive.

At any rate $1,000 may be way more than you need to pay. Lots of newer models are willing to do TFP or TF/CD (Time for prints or CD). Essentially that method is free.

In my opinion the largest hurdle is finding an excellent photographer to work with. Great photogs have a great base of models to work with and models actively seek them out because they want the best images in their portfolio.

I could probably help you locate a pretty good model and photog depending on where you are located and what you want to accomplish. And, it might not cost you very much.

I have plenty of experience in the field of models.

What type of images are you planning for your shirts (glamor, pin-up, etc)?

I have considered the same thing about models.I found a real pretty bartender and asked her if shed model my shirts and she agreed...before we even talked compensation.I have a buddy who is big in to photography and he said hed do the shoot for free.I asked him how much to pay the model and he said give them like 50 bucks and some free pictures.p.s if your single this is a great way to meet the hotties!

I 100% agree with leg cramps..But make sure you sell yourself have a game plan know what you want to say have business card in hand and then approach the cute girl ask her if she would model your gear. The key is be respectful and don't come across as creepy the worst she can say is no but if you come across as creepy she will say NO and probably kick you in the jewels.

All good responses.

Model release is crucial. You don't want to be sued later when your shirt is making money or not.

Compensation of a shirt(s) is perfectly acceptable and customary.

Unless you are basing the shirt design around a model that is well known and will be clearly depicted based on her likeness you can use lesser known beginner models to save money.
