Selling personal band shirts - original?

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this forum but I'm no stranger to it, have been lurking through posts for the last few months.

Recently got into heat transfer designs and have started a small business. I'm currently making shirts for my own band and just wanted some in site on legalities for selling.

I do my designs in photo shop but one of our songs is specifically about 'Indiana Jones'. I found some 'free for commercial use' images (and one random one from a reddit forum of a toilet lol) and made a design relative to our song. The Indiana jones render was stated 'free for commercial use' however, I know copyright can be a rather difficult one to sway from. Can anyone tell me whether this design would be an infringement for selling at our gigs? I put a water mark across it so please excuse that :)

Thanks

p.s - couldn't find an option to upload direct to this forum :/

1) First of all let me say hi and nice welcome on forum to you. :)

2)What happened here? Some kinda voodoo?! -.-

3)That voodoo was made exactly in one minute according to my clock listening to nice drum n bass and drinking strong black no sugar no milk turkish coffee at 3:54am my time.
Wanna see what voodoo can do in 5 minutes? :)

4)No need to apologize for watermarks. I think you realized watermarks are useless :)

5) I don't think using that actor is allowed...

6)here is that drum n bass which I am listening right now:

7) How are you? :)

Hey Seacookie, thanks for the reply!

I guess you uploaded it to a share site and used the forum link? Haha, I just wanted to avoid doing that and figured I may have just missed the forum button for it!

That drum and bass is definitely inspirational work music lol - good for chilling out too!

Well the abbreviated story behind that design is we have a song called
'Indiana Jones Toilet Seat'. It's about our singers outhouse toilet that would scare even the bravest of souls haha

I understand it would be copyright if it was a particular actor however this is where I sourced the image

https://renegdr.deviantart.com/art/Render-Indiana-Jones-277981636

Would this still be an issue? It seems to me its a compltely unique 'render' rather than something taking from an actor

I am fine thank you :) It's early arvo Sunday in Australia so between the house work, shirt printing!

There are multiple issues here. You need permission to use Harrison Ford's likeness. You need permission to use the Indiana Jones character. And you need permission to use the Scott toilet paper logo. It doesn't matter that the render is noted as free for commercial use; whoever created it only has rights to their art. The content of the art, which in this case is an image of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, is still owned by their respective IP holders.
And further more, picture is loosing letters...
kimura-mma thank you! That was the answer I needed. I won't use that.

Again, found a commercial image but it had a small 'Fuji' label on it. I did remove it because it was rather minor but considering this is a really outdated piece of tech would this be an infringement? Just want to get this right :)

I know it's not relevant now but what do you mean loosing letters? The plain faded white writing isn't part of the design, that was the watermark if that's what you were referring to :)

I doubt the use of this image would be an issue.

This is some special I delete my self watermark? :D
One little brainstorming... why don't you shoot one of your band member dressed as like some kinda weird Indiana Jones? It only takes one picture, one whip and few bears :D
And who the hell did that photoshop? Kinda makes me mad... -.-

The indiana photoshop was my 5mins black coffee night lol, that was infact a rough design because nothing looks like what we wanted. We plan on getting a unique design done by an artist friend but as of now, funding is low - musician life lol. I hope the photo shop hasn't ruined you day :p

Thanks again Kimura-mma, appreciate your input :)

I will post some completed press pic once I'm done :)

np, good karma :)
So these are what I ended up printing using JPSS. Seemed to work out pretty nice but would like some opinions. I would love to be able to sell these (except the four four designs one) at gigs, do you think they're suitable? I've done test washes on previous ones and apart from minimal fade, they held up nicely. Printed using durabrite inks :)

edit: Sorry the pics uploaded in landscape :/

If you double click on picture it opens in full size and they are not in landscape. I like the second one the most. But all look very crisp. Did you use heat press?

Yes I did heatpress. about 5sec after press remove backing, stretch while still hot, then repress with baking sheet for another 5seconds. Did I do something wrong?

Followed the JPSS initial press instructions too

Don't know, sry. I don't do JPSS. For that info you need to wait for other guys to come on forum.

Or use search function on forum.
