Hello All,

I've printed on sweaters in the past and have not had much luck with the final image. Usually it has a fiber look (not a clean print) and high bleed. Does anyone have any tips when printing on sweaters? I have black 50/50 Polyblend sweaters that i will need to print this week and i will be printing with white ink. I'm trying to prevent the fibers from showing which usually happens. I have several low bleed white inks including a plastisol ink (really thick and hard to use even with curable reducer) which is not my favorite. What brand inks do others use? I will be using 110 and 156 screen meshes. The design is a simple one color design. I've been printing on shirts for years, multiple colors, multiple color with halftones, but have avoided sweaters due to the ugly finished product. I'd like to offer sweaters so its time to tackle this. The goal is to get a clean looking printing similar to a shirt screenprint. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

there is a trimmer made for sweaters that could be used prier to printing to remove the fibers that are standing up. I can't say for sure it will work but it may be worth a shot. I know my wife has one she uses.

My personal preference for ink is international coatings. I use curable reducer when needed (white ink) for me.. Check your off contact and make sure you are clearing the screen. Off contact should be different for t-shirts vs hoodies.

Thanks. What would be a recommended "off-contact" height? I've heard this before but didn't make the connection.

I just finished printing white ink on black hoodies for the first time, and I dealt with the same issues! Luckily I was able to take my time and learn, but what ended up helping me was to flash the hoodie first and then smooth the fibers down. I also think it was a combination of that and being sure to lay the plastisol ink on top of the garment rather than force it in. Good luck!
