Roland Versacamm VP 540 purchase?

13856 Views 22 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  scuba_steve2699
I'm looking at buying what is said to be a 3 year old VP 540 for $1800.

Wondering what to look for and what others think about the machine. I have never owned a solvent based printer so I have no idea.

Also wondering if these Eco Solvent printers are safe to use indoors.

Thanks in Advance.

3 yrs old and $ 1800 ?? I'd run away fast. Sounds like a scam to me. That printer was well over $ 20,000 new.
I have a Roland Versacamm ecosolvent printer that I use inside with no special vent system. No solvent smell and the machine has run flawlessly for almost 3 years. Well worth the money I am spending monthly on a new machine.
Yea, I was thinking that was cheap. The guy has not got back with me yet and most likely will not.
I agree - something sounds very suspicious of that price. If you are really set on it - make sure a tech does an inspection of the machine before you buy it.
He probably forgot a 0.

That's what I was thinking too. I have a VP-540 and I'd be hard to sell mine at $18K.
From the replies, it sound like a machine I need to look at getting regardless. Just lots of money since I just started up business about a 2 months ago.

Has anyone done the Roland lease program?
Talked to Roland's preferred lease company and there was no way I could afford those payments.
So yesterday I found a SP-540i on digitsmith with only 200 hours on it and I sent him a down payment till I can pick it up next weekend.

If $1800 is the correct price then take it. Even if you have to replace the print heads capping station and motherboard you are getting a great deal.
Well it looks like it must be a scam or something. The guy has not returned any emails. Oh Well.
Some day I will be able to purchase a good Printer.

You might want to consider the smaller SP300 it will save you some money. That is what I did, and I just outsorce larger prints to a local vehicle wrap shop.
I would get a 540 over a 300 only because it cuts out the 3foot banners I make. And I get a lot.

Our VP300i has been very satisifying for us. We don't do wraps, so there has been no need for a 54" wide printer. We can print a 30" banner (28" hemmed) which is only 6" less than a 36" banner when hemmed. Also I'd see a huge waste of vinyl having to use 54" material with each job OR having to stock both sizes of material which would add cost. Yes I have seen the need for a larger printer a few times, but for our purpose the 30" has been more than enough.

Forgot to add... SickPuppy is correct, if you can get it cheap enough... the heads can be replaced easily if needed. Just keep in mind, each head is roughly $ 1000 to replace so consider this when buying one with printing problems. The capping stations are around $ 50 each and can be done DIY style. I watched the tech change a head on our machine... I don't think I'd want to try that one myself.
I purchased a used SP300V from a company called All Square Digital Solutions. The advertisement stated that the printer had a new pump and capping station. At their shop the printer tested fine and would print a test sheet from the printer. I could not get a perfect print pattern when doing the nozzle check but it was printing fine. When I got the printer home I found that the USB connection was dead. They sent a tech to my house replaced the mother board and both print heads. The printer basically has all new parts. I call the tech support anytime I have an issue and they explain how to resolve it.

There are great deals out there if you can find a reputable company, I would highly recommend All Square.
Well the guy finally got back with me on the printer. And of coarse he claimed he just left the country and would be willing to pay the shipping costs if I purchase the printer.
Who really falls for this scam?

It was worth a laugh I guess.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm thinking the SP300 would be a great start for me when the time and money is right.
