Roland GX 24 HELP

Hi ALL

I'm having an issue with my GX 24 Im not sure if the issue is the Vinyl, Blade, cutter Force or what ??

When I cut an intricate design e.g a small thin line, when Im weeding one tine piece of vinyl remains attached at one side, this make weeding real hard, it seems that the blade isn't cutting out the full shape.

The vinyl i'm using is Creative Transfer solutions -
Pro-Seal Verso Film

The blade Im using is xpress cut blade XP2006 a blue cap on it

The cutter is set to 250 gf force

This is becoming a real pain ....

Any help or advice much appreciated :)

The first thing I recommend you do before messing with any of your cutter's settings is to check out the shape that you're cutting. All all the sides closed off? Incomplete paths will not completely cut in CutStudio simply because the sides are not all attached.

If that's not the case then it's something to do with the machine. Either it's settings or the blade, blade holder, cutting strip, etc,.

also forgot to mention it also does it slightly with normal letters ... I keep thinking im using the wrong blade or maybe my designs are just too small for the cutter :(
If your paths are all closed properly, it may have to do with your overcut settings, or it could even be your software. Can't tell you how to change those in your particular software/machine, but I just went through this same thing with my Seiki and WinPCSIGN. No matter what I cut, it wasn't getting cut completely.

Nothing we tried in WinPCSIGN or in the machine settings seemed to help. So out of curiosity, I tried cutting the same design (just letters ranging from 1" down to .25", created in each program, not an imported file) in FlexiStarter, and it cut flawlessly, even on the .25" letters.

So in my case, it had something to do with a setting in WinPCSIGN, which I still haven't figured out, and I haven't had time to call support about it.

Good luck! I know it's annoying when things don't get cut completely! It really makes weeding a pain!

Thanks for the reply

Im using Illustrator with the Cutstudio plugin CS4 on a macbook pro ... I have the full cutstudio on a PC but have never used it ... I hate using windows these days !

I will take on board what you have said and maybe try the same design on there ... its costing me in time for a weed that should take 5 to 10 mins max is taking me over 30 mins+ ...
The vinyl must be pretty thick to be using 250 force setting.
I am using 90-100 for heat press vinyl, videoflex.
not really I just set it at the max on the hope it would cut it all out but it doesnt it leaves a fraction on a mm ... :(

I see.
maybe you need to adjust blade depth.
P56 - User manual
will have a read the blades ive been using are of a fixed depth, but i have bought some that go in the manual holder ... what difference does the degrees make ... and thank you for your help :)
Sorry for not getting back to this earlier. The one thing I noticed is that the design you posted will cut twice every time since there are overlapping paths. One thing that I think will help is to take away the black part and just let the gray and the little black dots cut out.

There are also some curves that overlap each other so the point where they go over the shape twice.

I really think that if you clean up the design (merge paths, remove overlaps etc,.) you can get the design to cut better and thus weed better.
Also to add to that, check to make sure that your blade isn't sticking out too far. Your blade should be extended roughly 1/2 the thickness of a credit card.

Also, 250 grams of force is probably too high for what you are cutting.

Both of these things will cause cutting issues.

Mine had issues with plain text also, and switching software made a world of difference. You may not have that luxury, though.
