Rip Pro Choke/Feed help

Hi there, I have an DTG HM1 and am hoping someone can help me better understand the Choke options in Rip Pro

Here is my image that has been printed:
imgur: the simple image sharer

The white appears to peak out on the right side of the blue - this is on the left side of the shirt... just a little... causing the image to look weird.

Would putting the CHOKE RIGHT setting to 2 or 3 be the appropriate action?

I guess it'd be nice to know exactly how this Choke system works. Adjusting all the numbers only seems to either make it much worse, or opposite of what I'm expecting. Very confusing.
I have had the K2 for 5 years with rip pro and have the same problem and no one can seem to answer it.
I literally just went through 20 prints of the same image, adjusting these numbers. There was no rhyme or reason why the white poked out that I could figure out. I wish I could better understand how this choke works.
My choke is something like 15 for top, left, right and 16 for the bottom. I think, can't remember just remember it's in the mid teens. The choke pulls in the white by reducing the pixels that much less than the color. I just recently learned that if you tuck the shirt on the platen to tight it will relax a little between layers and look just like yours looks. So make sure you don't have the shirt stretched tight on the platen before you mess with the choke to much.

I will keep an eye on that for sure. It does tend to do that more on some of the thinner/smaller shirts we're using, so that could be it.
Try laying the shirt flat on the platen as you would normally. Then with the edges laying over the edge tuck the extra material in from the bottom instead of the top to avoid stretching it.

I did some tests on a Gildan shirt that was not pulled tight - so there was no concern about the shirt shrinking - and got the same results.

  • Does the number on the choke indicate the number of pixels you are eroding from the white layer?
  • Does this also impact the color layer at all, or just the white layer?
Honestly I'm not hundred percent sure it's actual pixels or just a generic number. Never been given a clear answer. The choke does only effect the white layer. That I do know for sure.

I am having a similar problem with just one graphic. The white only peeks out at the bottom and not either side. I can print other graphics just fine. I don't know what is different about this one graphic. I have double checked everything I can think of. Any thoughts?
Double check the artwork, usually if its in the exact same spot it could be something in the artwork.

if at all possible try to erase near the area that keeps cause problems.

I usually use photoshop to look at the pixels (if not vector) to see if there is pixels poking out.
The artwork is all large lettering. It is going on a black shirt so I am putting one layer of white down first. Then when it puts the color down it is off a little. It is only on this one design and no others. There are two different fonts used and it happens on both.

Reduce the size of the letters (as a test) to see if its still happening.
Yes I have tried both smaller and bigger. Strangest thing ever.
All that is left to do is adjust your choke in RIP, it is odd that its just those fonts.
