Hello all
I am very new to all this. So new that I only recently heard that design competitions exist!! Sounds just what I need though as I have a t-shirt project and need a design. My question then is : what would be a decent amount to award the winner of any competition I start?
Am really curious
Good luck with all your own projects too

That depends on the quality of designs you want submitted. If there is little motivation, there will be little effort. Also, most professional designers dont want to waste time on an unknown contest that they will not be reimbursed for unless its chosen, especially if it is for an individual person and not a respected and known company/website. Good luck though, I could be completely wrong.

just my 2 cents.

You would probably be better off finding a reputable designer and having them create a design for you. The problem with competitions, as mentioned, is that compensation is uncertain, so little thought is put into the branding aspect of the design. Most people in competitions create a design that they think will win, not one that necessarily will be the best for your brand.

Thanks to both of you who replied to my earlier pots. This still leaves me with the problem of finding a designer. If you, or anyone else, has a bright idea about this, I'm all eyes !!!

Hi,

I just tried a design comp. Was unsuccessful. Offered good prize money. But had kids entering. Or college students putting in part of there course work. So a let down. Will have to look for a designer we can work with now.
If anyone has any ideas how to do that i would be very grateful. But thought it was worth the money on the posters and leaflets. Should have asked in the forum first . Never mind..

There are a lot of professional designers here in the forum including myself. Just be sure to post specifically what you are looking for in the correct forum area. BE VERY SPECIFIC what style you are looking for and ask people for an online or emailed portfolio...find some you like...figure out fees AND approx speed of work...then choose 1 or 2 to work with.

When I freelance design, I send jpegs until I get paid, then I send all proper formats needed.

No,I do not want to steal your ideas or artwork, especially if its specific to your company...I just want to be paid for the work I put in.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I agree, when you do a design competition, you're bound to have a lot of people sumbitting designs that are not ready and properly set up to then go and screen print. You'll save yourself a lot of headache if you just look for a designer that you think will be able to do a good job for you. A good place to start is submitting your idea/need in the Referrals and Recommendations section of this forrum-- that's the proper section where artists can then reach out to you.
