Ricoh GX e3350n running costs

I am considering getting a Ricoh GX e3350n dye sub printer for small runs of tee shirts etc. A friend who is also in the printing business has advised me against it as he says the ink costs will be too high.

There aren't any CISS systems for this printer as far as I can tell.

Companies like RA Smart do the printer with inks for UK £300 and replacement ink cartridge sets for UK £150. I have no idea how long those £150 cartridges will last. Obviously no one can say how many tee shirts I can print with a set 'cos it depends on what I print, but any ideas of running costs would be very much appreciated and will help me make a decision.

you are correct on two points...there is no CIS available for this printer because of the design and ink acquisition. Second...running costs cannot be given as it is entirely dependent on the size of image printed, the amount of each color in the design. It will comparable to ink cost, running cost for an Epson unit with sublimation inks. I have been using a Ricoh GX7000 for 3 years and would not go back to Epson because I have no clogging issues...I know there have been threads that the GX7000 has had issues, but so far for me it has been a workhorse
I have a GX e3300n Ricoh and do sublimation.I do think it is more efficient than the epson 1400," I had" due to all the head cleanings required on the epson with sublimation ink.

Your friend may be correct, however;due to the fact you have to use 100% polyester with sublimation ink.
I did a few shirts lately and a rough estimate I used was about $8 USD per shirt, for shirt and ink cost.

You may be better off getting a pigment ink system and quality tranfer paper and cotton shirts.
Full coverage letter/a4 sheet is about $.60
in ink.

Thanks -- that's just the kind of info I was hoping for.

DO NOT BUY A 3350 !!

Rather buy a 3300 or the new printer which is being released. The problem with the 3350, is that the sublimation cartridges are not always recognized by the printer and sometimes the cartridge doesn't slide in properly.

An important tip! Thanks
Unfortunately I have had some issues with some 3350's not recognising the cart, but they would recognise a replacement.
