I had a friend come to me yesterday and wanted me to heat press some rhinestones for them. They purchased a rhinestone design and gave it to me with no instructions.

Are basically all the rhinestones the same when it comes to heat press times settings?

I peeled the white backing off, pressed at 350˚F for 10 seconds with medium to firm pressure. Wiped it for a few seconds with a rag, then peeled slowly. Everything pressed ok, then I brought the heat press down for 10 more seconds.

With no instructions for that particular sheet, I wasn't sure and I pulled those off of the internet from DAS I think. Does it vary from rhinestone manufacturers or are they all about the same?

1. Set temperature at 320 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Set pressure at medium to heavy.
3. Remove the white plastic backing from the transfer.
4. Place the transfer face up on the fabric with clear sheet facing
you.
5. Cover the transfer with a silicone sheet or cloth.
6. Press for 8 to 10 seconds.
7. Let cool for several minutes and slowly peel off the plastic from
the design.
8. For rhinestones or rhinestuds press again directly on the design

for 5 seconds.(some turn shirt inside out and hit it):D

To answer your question there are no exact temps and times as temps and times change with the type of garments that are being pressed, and being that all heat presses are not created equal, those settings posted above are just a starting point but you should test with your equipment. For example if I am pressing Nylon I would definitely not use the times posted above as it will surely scorch/burn the fabric. You have to adjust accordingly. If I am pressing a regualer tee, I press at 300-320 degrees for 15 seconds, flip inside out an press again for 3 seconds, never lost a stone. The last step is not necessary but I do it anyway.

Thanks for the input. I imagine I'm ok then. It was 100% cotton, and I did it at 10 seconds on 350˚F, then again. I imagine it will be fine. She only gave me 2 and I couldn't test since I don't do rhinestones and that's all she had. Of course, she wanted me to do them on the spot and didn't know of anyone to call, so a quick internet search gave me the details above.
