Good Morning

New to the boards, but not new to the industry! We've got 7 under our belt on our own and over 20 when you add in the 'real job' factor - ha!

We have an excellent, even expanding, customer base for our screen printing business which is currently run out of our home. We don't advertise - other than word of mouth or tagging giveaway shirts.

We are starting the planning stage of opening a store front in our town. The purpose of the store front will be to capture the business we are missing - we hear A LOT from people who see something we've printed and want to know where to get one, who want more options for spirit gear, etc. It will serve the 4 school districts that surround our town as a 'headquarters' for spirit items. Our core business will be screened and embroidered items, but we plan on offering lots of add on items as well...like pennants, car flags, yard signs, mugs, etc etc).

We will also be expanding our Community Kick Back - where a % of sales is given back to the communities in which we do business...to reading programs in elementary schools, etc. In these tough times of school budget cuts some of these programs have been cut and it's something we are passionate about. We live in a community that supports small town business that supports community programs - and expanding it to these other districts I think will help expand our business as well.

Fixtures - I have a catalog for Omaha fixtures, but am looking for other options. Ideas? I've searched this forum and didn't find much information on that specific question.

POS - we're looking into Quickbooks POS. It's a tad pricey, but I feel it has what we are looking for in regard to a customer loyalty program, tracking hot items, etc.

We are headed to Fort Worth for the ISS show to check out additional equipment we'll need - heat press, sublimation, etc as well as gather some new ideas. We haven't gone since 2003, so it's time!

Appreciate your time - Cheers!

Depending on where you live, there are tons of businesses closing and lots of surplus fixtures, I'd look to go that route to save $$$, most cities have a business or two that deal in used office furniture, display equipment, etc.

There are a few choices, but Quickbooks POS is a good choice, a lot of POS software is proprietary and will require a contract for tech support, updates, bug fixes.

Good luck in your venture.

I've been checking Craigslist - will have to check into businesses that sell used equipment - great idea.

I have a fairly clear idea of how I want to merchandise things - all those years in retail are coming in handy (thanks Cabela's) and I know what I don't want...it's just figuring out what I can budget for and what can wait!

Thanks!
