Repair or replace failed t-shirts ?

181 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  TABOB
Hi. I made some shirts for christmas presents and the next thing I know is I (and a friend) have a t-shirt business without really knowing all the ins and outs. We recently placed ,with a heat press , siser vinyl lettering and laser ink transfer images on polyester shirts. (Not a good idea?) The vinyl has come off a few of the shirts after they were washed. There are a total of 61 shirts. Are we to assume that it is only a matter of time before the rest of the vinyl comes off? We followed the directions to the best of our knowledge. We want to fix them, or replace them. Advice appreciated. Thanks Debeth

It really depends on what your costs are for producing a new line of shirts. Do whatever is best for your economy!
But you also have to consider the time it takes to repair or reproduce the shirts. If either of those take too long, then take the other one, as your customers do not want to wait.

Hope I helped you :)
What vinyl did you use? It is possible that you used the wrong type for polyester.

Three possibilities:
a) cheap heat press.
b) not enough heat, and/or not enough press time.
c) sizing agent on the shirt.

Thank you. If all the vinyl has come off, then repair would probably be both quicker and economical.
We used siser easyweed.
How do you know if there is a sizing agent on a shirt?
Get as many back as you can before they're washed and press them again at a significantly higher temperature and pressure. Do a test wash to see if that solved the problem.

Unless washed, all t-shirts have sizing agents. Some cause problems, and some don't. There is no way to know which one has been used.
