I need a basic heat gun to assist me with my vinyl installations. Any recommendations guys? I don't want to overspend, however I don't want to purchase cheap crap that dies after minimum use or worse, that catches on fire

There's not a lot to a heat gun!

Variable settings are nice but not entirely necessary and nozzles for the end are a bonus.

Tbh, even a dewalt heatgun is not "expensive". They're basically hair driers without the fancy packaging!

I blew through a couple cheapo Chicago $20 specials before. Think I got a Wagner on sale for like $45 that's served my purpose well and hasn't gone out yet, our sister auto body shop uses a Craftsman.

You'll probably want to get a propane torch as well. Not everywhere is going to have convenient electrical, and be careful when you first use em until you get acclimated (just cause you don't see the flame doesn't mean it's not there!)
