I've got a local company who provides services for people using 3rd party business contacting me (local screen printer) & wants me to give them a distributors price so that they don't have to mark them up so high. Why would I take less? Should I? I'm not sure what to do here.

If you have the time and could use the business, I would give him a small discount and grab the work. You may be able to get a little more on your own, but if he is going to sell for you why not grab it.

I never really thought of it as a salesman based issue. I gave my last part time salesman 30% of profit where he would also come in & manually help get those jobs printed. So I guess 15% isn't bad, it's just that so far they've only ordered two 20 shirt jobs. And the other thing is that it seems like they don't want people to know about me because they'd obviously get them cheaper directly through me where they mark my prices up 25%. Luckily I'm very well establishing my name in town. Just a weird situation all around.

Some people use a few different printers so you may not be his only printer. But 15% is fine i think. I will go up to 20% but only if they are ordering often.

Make a customer or a competitor. It all depends on volume. I do a good bit of contract work and a 10% discount would not get me any contract jobs around here. Depending on the volume I give as much as 60% discount.

Only agree to give them the discount with a written contract guaranteeing a minimum amount of shirts ordered to offset the discount price, ie: 100 shirts a month. There are alot of companies out there that say they will bring in work to the production but just want a discount for the few shirts they are ordering and never fulfill their spoken promises.

wow 60% discount? do u still make money from that?
Yes this is my biggest customer. Last year we did over 200,000 shirt for him alone. He sends the artwork already separated, exact ink colors and very precise instructions. His average order is 700 shirts, 3 orders a day. I make money when shirts roll off the belt!
