I'm new to heat transfer and still working out some kinks. Thought I had it all figured out, but yesterday I got some random blue spots on a mug that I pressed. I'm using Forever Multi-Trans with a mug press, white ceramic mugs and an Oki C711WT printer. Not sure how to post a picture so I'll try to describe what's happening. The graphic I'm transferring is a single color design (blue text). The design on the transfer sheet looked fine, but when I removed the paper after pressing it, there were 4 or 5 random blue spots (faint, but still noticeable). The spots average about the size of the head of a pin, and are scattered randomly, some close to the design, others no where near it. Not sure how to avoid the problem. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong? Thanks.

There must be some stray toner on the sheet when printing. Check the sheets after printing. You can cut away those spots to not waste the sheet. I would start by checking your design to make sure they are not stray image pixels in the original artwork. Then I would open the printer and clean everything to keep etra toner from spreading. Lastly I'd check the drums to make sure they are in good condition.

I'm inclined to believe it was stray toner, but removing all of the cartridges and trying to find the source proved unsuccessful. I gave up and have had great success sublimating the mugs with a Sawgrass SG400 instead. Too bad, because now I have this really awesome white toner laser printer that has been relegated to regular office printing. One of these days I'll make it live up to its full potential!
