I was told that a 6 color 6 station press was the highest size recommended to go up to in color/size before considering an automatic, but now i was just told by veteran screen printer that a 6 color 4 station in which is normally around a $1,000 less. Now I'm confused. I am looking to buy one and just tryng to make the most rational decision. So I'm asking,"what can u do with a 6/6 press that u can't do with a 6/4?

All heads down option not all 6/6 will be all heads down. I have never had a need. and print 2 extra shirts at a time. For me it seems to make it go faster. I have owned a 6/4 and now have a 6/6

The only thing worse than not buying a 6/6 is buying a 6/1..LOL
But honestly I prefer 6/6 over 6/4 because I have worked on both. The 6/4 biggest down fall in my opinion was when you need to flash you don't have the extra time for cool down. You generally want to put the flash dryer across from your print station/ arm. With a 6/6 I seem to print faster and have enough in between for cool down when flashing..

6/6 gives better cooling times. Occasionally i still need extra cooling time on my 8/6. I'd certainly spend the extra on a 6/6 for a machine's lifetime of advantage and faster production. Spend the money right and spend it once is my approach .

It does not matter what you buy as some folks will tell you it is not enough press for the job and others will tell you it is more than you need....Best to figure out what you need, buy it and then use it as best you can and do not 2nd guess yourself and try to convince yourself you made a mistake....
I feel you on this if he's a beginner then a 6/6 or a 6/2 will be to much cause he most likely dont know how to print a 2 or 4 color design. Get what you know you will be working with a go up if needed.or a 6/6 will be for sale on craiglist soon.

Saying that, it took me only 2 days to work out how to print more than 1 colour. Once you can print 2, you can print 6. If you need help, you can go on a 1 day screen print course to learn - it's not hard.

I've only ever had 1, 8 colour job, but an 8 colour press allows me to keep 3 jobs registered on the press all at once - it saves a BUNCH of time in re-registering jobs.

Most my jobs come in at between 1 and 4 colours, but having 8 has got me a few 6 colour jobs, allows some nice simulated prints and allows me to set up multiple jobs - which is really the handy part. 4 heads means you'll only be able to do cmyk on light shirts, or print 3 spot colours on a dark if they are all underbased. Of course, every printer has different customers, (i don't actually print cmyk right now as I have only had 1 cmyk enquiry in 2 years), but just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents of experience as a full time printer.

Getting a smaller press and most likely more of a starter press now will just make for a upgrade later and some extra frustration most starter press will have. I also recommend the tool less adjustments. I had 3 other press before my current. A lot of wasted time. Once I had them I will never print without them again.

As Richie mentions you can keep several jobs on a multicolor press. Has saved me a few times from telling a customer, no I can't print 5 extra shirts.
