Quite a happy "punt" with Cameo 3

Hi all,

I needed a "back up plan" without spending a ton...

So I made two purchases to complement my Mimaki JV3 Printer and back up my DTG printer by doing contour cuts. One was stupid, and horrible... one was just exactly what I needed. Both combined were less than other contour cutting options.

So mistake? Brother scan and cut. - The idea is awesome. It's a scanner, with built in trace capability. Awesome right? Well... reality is that it only scans 12x12, not 12x24 and it gets fooled by the shine of vinyl. Also the blades are stupid expensive, and it requires a mat to cut.
End Result --> Its epic and amazing for stickers if it works and the finish is matte. It sucks and is fully in-capable of anything else useful.

The gem? Cameo 3. - This uses real software, no cloud crap, and can print and read registration marks. It cuts great, 12"x"Unlimited" and can do this without a mat. Blades are reasonable, and its reliable.

This is a home craft cutter capable of really filling in the gaps if a t-shirt oriented print and cut solution is needed.

Unlimited budget? Get combined print cut or a Roland cutter...
Want a cheap but killer big boy cutter? Get a Titan 3 ARMS... $1500
Want in the 12-13" size range for cutting transfers? The $240 Cameo is a steal!

Good luck!

Whatever floats your boat really.

I had a Cameo and it was very unreliable at times for reading registration marks for print & cut due to its optical system, as opposed to the laser dot system of my super-accurate Silver Bullet cutter that I now use for every job.

If you're just cutting htv then fine, but for print & cut, especially in a business environment, the Cameo is still a toy and sadly lacking.
The Cameo can print and cut a4 paper without problem! With A3 I have also problem to read the registration marks! Also I have try to cut without a Matt and it was a disaster

Had issues with cameo 3 registration marks until I fixed good lighting source to the part where sensor for reading registration marks is.

So fix is quite simple, you just need a lamp on the right spot if you have issues with registration marks.

To me solution was just to reposition cameo for like 30 centimeters.

reposition holders for vinyl if you are doing without cutting map.

Thanks for the advice ,I will give it a try!Can you suggest placement for the holder?

I usually don't place right holder on right side to the right side of corner of the vinyl you are working on. I move it little to the left, so holder has more to grip if your vinyl is not cut straight. Not much, just some.
i always use a mat when cutting, never had an issue
get a 12"x24" for cutting multiple designs at once

you can shine a flashlight down on your reg marks while it is trying to read them
most of the time it is your printer/settings not printing black, but a cmy mix
especially if you are using a photo setting on epsons
