I know that it's recommended to laminate when printing on aqueous receptive vinyl. I want to understand the difference between a clear vinyl vs a laminating film. I've searched the forums, but I haven't found a clear answer as to what makes the two products different.

Laminate film is specifically designed to protect printed items, and usually has some kind of UV blocker in it. I've never been entirely sure what people do with clear vinyl (especially if it's not printed) but it's only designed to be put on a flat, non-reactive surface such as glass or properly cured paint (car), not a print, freshly painted surface, or your cat.

I use Oracal 210, there are higher grade overlaminates with longer ratings but so far I haven't had any issues with any of the test signs I've made (Sihl 3988).
