I have a Brother GT 782 and was wondering whether or not the white ink retrieved during the white retrieval is loaded back into the cart or whether it is sent to the waste tub? The reason why I need to know this is because we had someone do a tube cleaning, leave the cleaner in the line, and do a white retrieval instead of a white load. Would this mean I now have cleaner in my white cartridges? If I do is the cartridge ruined?

Yes, the ink does drain back into the cartridge. Here is how it works. Above the print head carriage are four solenoids that open up and release filtered air into the ink lines. The ink lines travel downhill back into the cartridges. (There is actually a small dip before the ink lines go into the needles to prevent the air from going into the cartridge.). There is a small portion of the ink lines from where the print head carriage is to the print heads that goes through the waste tube when you flush the lines with maintenance fluid (which is different than cleaning fluid - never put cleaning fluid through the print heads that have run white ink).

Hope this explains things for you. Unfortunately, odds are that your white cartridges are no longer good.

you probably meant maintenance fluid, right?.
Maintenance fluid is designed to go through the ink lines and print heads for the white ink. Cleaning fluid should not go through the white ink print heads and ink lines - it can lead to clogging from what I have been told.

Now when you are talking about the CMYK print heads, you will want to use the cleaning fluid.
