Ok so first off let me list what I have. I use;

Corel draw x6
Simple seps 3
Microsoft Windows machine.

I am planning on buying;

Epson 1430
Filmmaker RIP
CISS system with all black ink.

My question is would you recommend a different printer for under 4-500 dollars. Also what brand CISS should I look into along with what brand ink. Also dye or pigment ink? It will be strictly for printing films

I hear stories about printers not recognizing the new carts, would buying the printer from the same place I buy the CISS help with this problem.

Mainly where should I get the CISS and what kind of ink? Unless you have a different printer to mention as well as the rip.

Thanks
Jeron

The only reason I was going to get film maker was to get dense enough films... right now even with simple seps and my Epson ws7530 I have to double up the film's to get it dark enough.. maybe I'll try it with the 1430... maybe it will print dark enough...

But anyone have any thoughts on the CISS kit and type of ink

You want dye ink that is opaque and yes, made for film usage.
I've got a 1430 with refillable/auto-resettable cartridges. Excellent.
I got my setup from Film output and Screen Print Supplies
I'm very happy with everything from this company.
I know everyone has their own preferences and some that feel the need to shoot down the suggestions of others.(I'm not saying this in reference to the above suggestions).
This is what I use and am happy with and works well everytime. No clogs EVER with this ink.
I also have AccuRip. I do have SimpleSeps3 (and SSR), but like that with Accurip, I can control the ink deposit (by drops) as well as halftone shapes, etc.

Hey Celtic,

That is basically why i wanted a different rip. Just for the extra control and mainly darker films..

So i'm assuming you bought the printer from them in one of there kits???

Do you need to have a chip re-setter??? or you said it is auto reset??

Thanks for your reply btw..

I just bought a ink system from Inkjet carts , they have a special black use for positives, along with the standard inks for printing because I also use it for biz cards and transfers with JPSS.
You can put all black in this printer with Accurip and get awsome results. I am useing the china carts butthere is ciss available and another type. which I am not sure of .

With simple sep 3 you can get dark dense films with the proper ink with NO RIP. I own filmmaker and rarely use it. I am currently using the hybrid ink from inkjetcarts.us. 1430 with the right chipset for refillables or CISS works great. The 1400/1430 is one of the best halftone printers out there.

With simple seps 3. separate the graphic. If no halftone you can just take the separation output and change all the black to 100% CMYK. or just convert each separation page to a halftone even if its a spot color. There is a option to choose all black(100%CMYK) or rich black for using colors to print films. When printing choose photo or best photo, I choose premium photo paper, recently someone said they got darker results from presentation paper.

Find you best settings and save it as a preset. I have one for each size film and orientation. Label each like 8.5x14 film landscape.

Then just choose the setting for you paper each time for fast output without mistakes.

Oh ok, I'll have to try it before I get the rip.. have you noticed if the halftone that is generated in simple seps is as good as it is in filmmaker??

The other thing is at least to my knowledge you can put a image directly into filmmaker and it will separate it into CMYK separations... but I'm not sure as I don't have the program.

But is this the ink you use?

Screen Positive Black Hybrid Ink| Screen Printing| Epson| Need great Opaque and fast drying inks for Films/Vellums

And did you get your refillable carts from them as well? They have a few options that I need to figure out between them

I do wish simple seps would let you choose different reg marks though!!!

Corel draw will do CMYK separations directly from the print menu. I your using a process ink that has had profiles they come out great. I use the IC probrite and their profile. Making the underbase if needed will need to be done manually

the output equally Accurip. Each of those will use 1 dot size per resolution. Filmmaker is unique that it will use 3 dot sizes per resolution generating better detail and gradients but unless your doing very detailed work and doing award winning type prints simple seps does a great job. if you look in the simple sep raster section you will see work I use simple seps 3 to halftone and print but the seps were done in raster. Im out to deliver shirts if you cant find I can look it up and post link later

Oh ok.. that sounds awesome, sound like I have a lot of growing to do before I should need a rip... but that's good!!! Money I can spend elsewhere..

And I looked but couldn't find anything so if you could give a link because I would love to see what you've done.

Thanks again for the help

Screen selection is more by design. I push the limits when it comes to LPI to mesh. Divide mesh by 4.5 standard or by 5 safe to determine LPI. I see all roller frames and mesh so my mesh sizes may sound a little diffrent. The miss Mitchell and cancer rebels were 45 LPI on 205. The other 2 were 65 LPI on 205. If you can learn to push it without moire or detail loss you can put down more ink with less effort.

This is also who I get my ink from for screenprinting and photoabrasive films - black as black as can be!
great stuff!
