Does anyone know what the purposes or purposes are for the chips on the ink pouches?

The purpose of chips on any ink cartridge/pouch is to monitor ink consumption and to render itself useless once the cartridge is empty so you can't refill/reuse again.

From what I can tell, the chips on Brother GTX cartridge does NOT monitor ink consumption.

Instead, Brother still uses plastic mechanical lever to send message to the printer if the ink is low.

I know this because I syringe out every single drop of the left over ink and put it into one and it worked fine.

My guess it it just authenticates if the ink is genuine or not, but I really don't know it's purpose.

I guess the chip checks if the ink is genuine and possibly expiration date (like Mimaki does).
