Before I decided on a more traditional line table press, I diy'ed a few presses with modular platens, one with an under-frame microtuning but all on the "top" of the frame. My last, project "delta", also has all the registration on "top" of the frame but by its design, enable one to print faster.

I have not been screen printing for 4 months now as I find it difficult to print at home during the wee hours of the morning - the only time I have for printing. I currently concentrate more on heat transfers which I can do at my shop.

Unfortunately, the prototype press has been dismantled. Even my drying cabinet was recently dismantled.

I have decided to share the concept in the hope that someone will find it useful. The concept is free for anyone to use or DIY.

This is the original press I use.

The swivel-less castor wheels are made of nylon. The rail on which the 2 castor wheels are attached are made of 3/4"x 2/4" wood making it a little fragile. However, registration is pretty good although some problems are traced to the castor wheel not being 100% round. I looked for metal castor wheels but the only ones I can find have swivels.

This is the planned modification I did have not tried. Major reason, as stated, I cannot find metal castor wheels without swivels

Which brings me to this plan "C". The frame has a greater chance of accidental movement though causing misregistration. And at this time, I have decided on a more traditional line table press so I did not pursue the plan.

Feel free if you can improve on it. The few times I actually printed with it prove to be fast - unlike those with under frame micro registration systems.

Angel,

I'm thinking inline skate wheels or a couple z-508 bearings instead of the caster wheels would be good and then spring load one side.

Since I happen to have an extra table top press hanging around, I'll give it a try and post some pictures...Since I'm on my bicycle most of the day next Saturday I'm thinking the week after.

That sounds nice. Although I can't find what the z-508 bearings look like, I do think flawless circular metal bearings would be a much better alternative. The in-line skate wheels should do but I am concerned that it may slightly "deform" over time when pressed against a small metal screw head.
the 508 bearing is actually what's used in the skate wheels. Cut down the outer tube on a cheap Bic pen and use that as a bushing for a 1/4 in bolt and you have a tight smooth fit. I use them as horizontal casters for the lathe on my workbench.
