problem with plastisol print flash print

so i'm getting into plastisol from water base printing and now doing a lot of white on dark fabrics. everyone says to print flash print then cure.

well after trying this method at least three times now after flashing the first print i'll lay down the screen to do the second and the ink gets dried in the screen. i have to use screen wash to unclog the design area and it usually means the next print (no matter how good i dry the print side) will be a blurry mess.

is this due to the platen being too hot? what do you recommend, just waiting a half minute before attempting the next print?

Are you giving a little cooling time after the flash or putting your second layer on straight after the flash? You could be starting to cure the ink in the screen if the shirt is too hot.

Yes it's usually a cooling problem. 1 way I have sped up the process is by attaching a small clamp style fan to the back of my flash dryer so when I spin it out of the way the fan blows and cools for a few seconds before the next print. I am guessing you are using a single station press because now that i have moved to the 4 station I haven't had an issue because the second station is the flash dryer, station 3 and 4 are cooling before it gets back around to do the second print. As hard as it is let yours cool a little longer.

Assuming your using a 1 station press I would say your platen is to hot and your geling the ink in the screen... wait a little longer.. if your using a multi station setup your getting it way to hot

If you have to clean the screen with ink wash lay a scrap piece down right on top of your shirt that needs a second print. print into that to clean the screen of ink wash.... then you can remove the scrap and continue to print your second pass

Obviously you would have to flash the image first before you put the scrap piece on top of it to clean the screen out..

Thanks,

unfortunately due to space restrictions it's a 4c/1 station press. i finished up the job today printing hoodies and had no problems. i just remembered to give it more time. also the thickness of the hoodies didn't let the heat of the flash to penetrate to platen as much as the tshirts did.

has anyone ever printed insulated hoodies before? my customer ordered 2 kinds, some regular heavy cotton full zips and the others have a sherpa lining so the hoodie itself is very thick and cushiony so i didn't want to take the chance of lifting the screen and flashing and then have it out of register because the garment moved. not a problem they came out ok, it's just i had to lay on the ink pretty thick. was wondering if anyone had run into a situation like that before?
