I was going to order a capping station from dtginks.com, and noticed that their website does not use SSL during checkout. I called to place the order over the phone & Gloria refused to take my order over the phone, saying they only take orders through the website.

In this day and age of stolen credit card #'s & identity theft, this is RIDICULOUS. I refuse to order from a company that does not operate a secure website, plain & simple.

On a side note, does anyone know any alternatives to ordering JUST a capping station for an Epson 1900?

Just curious...did you mention that to them?

Was their SSL not working, or did they just not ever have one? I think it's actually a requirement from the credit card companies (PCI Compliance) to have SSL security in place if you're accepting credit cards online.

Re: I Refuse To Order From DTGINKS.COM

best i can tell, it's a Google Chrome issue with me. when i use Internet Explorer, the site defaults to "http", just make it "https" and IE reports that it's secure. Chrome shows 256 bit encryption, but says there are other things that are not secure.

so just use IE when placing your order. sorry, Dan, for not testing this before posting that it wasn't working. i've been using Chrome to access your website which is why i posted that it wasn't working.

Chobay - try IE and see if you get the same result. when you get to the checkout page, add the "s" to "http", and you should be secure. i don't think it's necessary to openly blast DTGinks.com until all options have been exhausted.

Wrong answer. All ecommerce sites should support SSL on all major browsers. (I use firefox) What if i was on a mac and didnt have IE? The bottom line is, their SSL functionality is broken, and they dont seem to care OR offer an alternative of ordering over the phone.

Update: i ordered a cap assembly from american business Supply, and they were HAPPY to take my cc over the phone. They even price matched dtgink.com..:)

P.s., and yes, i did alert them to the SSL redirect not working, the last time i ordered from them about a year ago. They reluctantly took my cc over the phone that time.

Re: I Refuse To Order From DTGINKS.COM

i'm not here to argue, just to help. i don't understand what makes my answer "wrong".

their ssl does work, and it shows 256 bit encryption like i posted. there were other things that Chrome didn't like, but IE didn't show anything wrong with their site. some sites are created to work best with IE, and it's possible that their site is one of those. just because Firefox and Chrome have issues doesn't mean their website is the problem. seriously, i'm not looking to argue. order from whomever you want, and i agree with you that customer service reigns supreme and you should have been able to place your order over the phone. Dan & Gloria's company, Dan & Gloria's rules.

i have an AnaJet and a NeoFlex, and i buy from AnaJet, DTGinks.com, AA screen supply (NeoFlex), and i've used Compress Micro.

You're wrong in telling me to use another browser or typing letters into a URL. If an ecommerce site doesnt switch to SSL automatically during checkout, it IS the website's problem, not mine. I shouldn't be required to do all of that, i just want to buy something.

At any rate, i found a company that wants to accept my money.

Re: I Refuse To Order From DTGINKS.COM

From what I can tell DTGinks.com is secure. I am using Chrome, if you click on the lock next to the HTTPS you can see it is secured by 256-bit encryption. I've created websites before, if some small element on the page is not encrypted it will show up this way. Like if you had a small facebook button on all pages (even your cart pages) that was code from facebook, it would make chrome show that not all things are secured. But since DTGinks.com does show 256-bit encryption any information transferred through the cart would be secure. In saying that it still should be looked at for Dan's sake so it would not scare people off that might feel unsafe in the future.

I am sure I will get eaten up for this but here goes... It very well may be your browser settings, your firewall settings, you toolbar Addons, or any other number of things. There are Lots of sites that will flat out tell you front and center. "this site optimized for..." this should tell you all browsers are not created equal nor developed and supported equally. Just like photoexpressions that comes free with your digital point and shoot is not the same as photoshop and should not be expected to perform the same way. It is your choice not to shop with them but to blast them and the people who try to offer constructive solutions is in unproductive. There are manufactures and suppliers who feed this unproductiveness on the forums and should realize how this destroys their credibility. It is great to point out their issue (an email to them would have been a courtesy rather then the forums) but it is another thing to question them as a quality supplier based on your browser not working the way you want it to on their site. There is a reason you wanted to order from them so they are doing something correctly and from the other posts others find them reliable as well. If they cant meet your unique needs and you have no desire to adjust to their requirements the best solution is to move on.

My two cents. Toss them in a well and make a wish.

Re: I Refuse To Order From DTGINKS.COM

It's funny how people are criticizing me for posting about MY experience with a company. If you go back through my hundreds of posts, I rarely, if ever complain about a company. I just found it strange that in this economy a company didn't have any interest in taking my money.

Here are the facts:
Their website does not redirect to SSL on checkout using Firefox. (The most widely used browser in the world.) When I called them and told them that, they didn't care OR offer up an alternative. They refused to take my order over the phone.

AFAIK Rodney promotes people posting their experiences with vendors good or bad. I don't really see what's so unproductive about sharing my personal experience.

I am an Information Security professional by trade, so please don't condescend me by suggesting that my browser settings are the problem. Most vendors, big and small will test functionality of their ecommerce sites with ALL of the major web browsers. If companies don't ensure compatibility & secure transmission of sensitive data regardless of the browser they use, then THEY are at fault, not me.

I have moved on, and couldn't be happier with American Screen Supply.

You are very correct in your statements and your experiences are your own. Telling people "youre wrong" when offering their experience or suggestion sets a pretty negative tone.

My comments are not personal attracts but rather a comment on a pattern I have seen developing on the forums over the past few months which will over time discourse people from posting and drive them to other forums.

Thank you for taking the time to read your own thread and post over time. Everyone's insights are what make this a fun place to browse.

I think the forums here are pretty friendly in comparison to most other forums :) People are always going to have differing opinions in a community, whether it be online or in your neighborhood or workplace. The problem comes when it gets into personal attacks, name calling, spreading rumors. I think TSF generally takes the high road in those situations.

True enough.

People are always going to have differing opinions in a community, whether it be online or in your neighborhood or workplace.
Yet our reactions to differing opinions is what determines what type of coworker or neighbor we are and whether a conversation is constructive or destructive. The type you choose leads to the type of reaction you receive.
